Sugar consumption is connected to harmful health outcomes and associated with the following conditions:
- cancer
- cardiovascular disease
- tooth decay
- diabetes
- ectopic fatty accumulation
- gout
- obesity
The umbrella review studied and reviewed evidence comparing a low-sugar to high-sugar diet.
Limiting sugar consumption to below 25 grams/day (about 6 teaspoons/day) and limiting sweetened beverages to less than one serving/week are recommended to reduce adverse effects of sugars on health.
