As providers, we must choose the best tools for patient quality and outcomes every day. Knowing the best types of adhesives may help dental providers select materials for optimal patient outcomes. A recent study in the Journal of Prosthodontic Research reinforces earlier findings from previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses about the 12-month efficacy of adhesive strategies for restorative dentistry. The study examined 674 patients with 2816 restorations and looked for discoloration over 12, 24 and 36 months. The researchers concluded “outcomes of restorations completed with an etch-and-rinse adhesive protocol were superior to the ones achieved with a self etching strategy without selective enamel-etching.”
