GEHA's CONNECTION Dental Network

Our dental network is one of the largest networks in the nation, with about 37,000 Participating Dentists. There are no membership fees for dentists to join. The network is used by GEHA with its own medical plan and to offer PPO benefits with its dental products, Connection Dental Federal and CONNECTION Dental Plus. GEHA actively markets the CONNECTION Dental Network to groups outside the federal government. The number of covered lives with access to the CONNECTION Dental Network has increased to 5 million. In addition to standard paper directories and a toll-free telephone numbers, members are directed to Participating Dentists through easy-to-use website directories that are updated monthly.

GEHA's Connection Dental Federal Plan

The Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) debuted in 2007 to provide enhanced dental and vision benefits for federal employees. After being selected as one of the companies to offer a FEDVIP supplemental dental program, GEHA introduced its GEHA Connection Dental Federal dental plan. GEHA Connection Dental Federal offers comprehensive coverage that includes four classes of services.

The FEDVIP plans are offered to all federal and U.S. Postal Service employees, retirees and their eligible family members as part of the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program. Premiums are deducted from federal employees' paychecks, just like federal medical plans. Federal employees can enroll through BENEFEDS at www.benefeds.com during Open Season or by calling (877) 888-3337. They do not need to have GEHA health insurance to sign up for the Connection Dental Federal plan.

In 2008, our Connection Dental Federal dental plan membership doubled in size. We are proud to be a part of the improved dental health of our members which, of course, increases their overall health and well-being. We now have about 72,000 members who will be directed to our Connection Dental Network Participating Dentists through this plan.

GEHA's CONNECTION Dental Plus Plan

GEHA offers another comprehensive dental plan called CONNECTION Dental Plus. This plan covers services such as routine exams, dentures, orthodontia for children and crowns. Benefits are described as "Non-FEHB" benefits in the GEHA plan benefit brochure. Members must pay additional premiums directly to GEHA, with no government contribution toward the premium. Connection Dental Plus is also available to all federal employees, regardless of the members' health plan.

GEHA Health Plan Dental Benefits

The dental benefits available under the GEHA health plan have remained about the same for many years and are not intended to be comprehensive dental coverage. GEHA health plan dental benefits are limited. For 2009, the GEHA health plan will cover two preventative visits per year that include examination, prophylaxis, X-rays of all types and fluoride treatments. GEHA's health plan has limited benefits for amalgam restorations, resin-based composite restorations, gold foil restorations, inlay/onlay restorations and simple extractions.
